The Center for Autonomous
Vehicle Applied Technology
and Information (CAVĀTI)
The Center for Autonomous Vehicle Applied
Technology and Information (CAVĀTI) is a non-profit, Utah-based
business coalition with a mission to advance autonomous vehicle
technology by leveraging industry assets with university resources
in the state of Utah.
Background
The United States Congress has mandated that
one-third of all military land vehicles be autonomous by 2015 and
two-thirds by 2025. With more than 360,000 United States military
wheeled vehicles, this Congressional mandate has created a large
market with incredible potential.
Currently, no clear leader exists in the
autonomous ground vehicle market, and organizations within Utah have
taken steps to establish the state as an autonomous leader. The
following examples highlight their efforts to date:
A number of companies and research
entities are already involved in this industry
A test facility at Dugway Proving Ground
is available for use
With these and other continued efforts, Utah
has an opportunity to be a leader in the autonomous ground vehicle
market.
Our Vision
CAVĀTI has a
mission to marry the needs, assets
and market reach of industrial members with the research and talent
of Utahs regional universities for the purpose of helping Utah
become a leader in the application of unmanned technologies to
market driven requirements. As a byproduct of this vision, CAVĀTI
will become a repository for autonomous technology and will help
member companies use that technology. In addition, the technology
developed by CAVĀTI will be a springboard for participation in
autonomous space exploration one of the future waves of autonomous
applications as well as in commercial and industrial markets.
CAVĀTI has a
volunteer board of directors comprised of representatives from
participating companies, universities, organizations, individuals
and the state of Utah. The board oversees the operations
of CAVĀTI and directs its funded research.
